The Hawthorne Club has joined Registered Clubs from the Hunter to champion volunteering for the upcoming Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games in Newcastle.
The Hunter Unites As one of 22 organisations, the Hawthorne Club has united with business leaders, senior managers and directors, employees, members and volunteers to encourage people in our region to be part of a 5,000 strong volunteer army needed for the event later this year.
Club President, Tom Maddern OAM, attended the special event on 9 August and said that the Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games was one of the most significant events this region has ever seen.
The Hunter Unites 'The Hawthorne Club is encouraging its members and the wider the Rugby community to get involved. Become a registered volunteer, fundraise, promote the event and buy tickets to the ceremony - this type of support will ensure that the event is great for our community and those who are visiting our region,' he said.
The Special Olympics 2013 Asia Pacific Games will be held from 30 November to 7 December and will bring together athletes with intellectual disabilities from 32 countries.
